How to Claim PPI Compensation Yourself

What is payment protection insurance?

Payment protection insurance (PPI) is usually sold in conjunction with other financial products such as credit cards, mortgages and various other types of loans.

This is designed to cover payments in case of accident, sick, redundancy or death.

What PPI compensation you could reclaim

Graphic numbers from the FCA show about 85% of single premium policy claims (policies paid in advance) for approved compensation (numbers starting 2014).

And the average customer pays for PPI loan compensation is around £ 3,000.

How do I know if I’ve been miss-sold PPI?

Have you ever had a mortgage, credit card or loan? If so, you may have incorrectly placed the PPI.

Previously, PPI was sold when issuing loans, credit cards, mortgages and auto finance. If you get sick or lose your job, there is an idea that PPI covers the monthly payment of your credit agreement.

However, sales representatives often do not fully consider policies and often are sold to people who are not covered. For example, for entrepreneurs, or for existing medical conditions. As a result, many policies do not pay when people need it.

If you remember the same conversation, you may charge a mistakenly sold PPI.

What if I don’t remember being sold PPI?

It's possible that you sold the PPI without realizing it. The sales representative does not explain the PPI policy at the time of sale in some cases.

Or they may say that you should take the PPI, or if you take it back, you may have a better chance of getting a loan. If this happens to you, you unfairly sell the PPI.

Need to check mortgage, credit card, loan contract. If the following terms appear on the document or the like, it may be possible to sell the PPI.
Payment cover
Protection plan
Loan protection
ASU
Loan care
Even if you can not find a document, if you think that you miss-sold the PPI it's still worth doing.

How do I find out the PPI of an image?

Size and Pixel Count In order to print a high quality photo, you must first determine the size you want to print. Then check the pixels of the image you want to print. To find the pixel count on your photo, open the image on your desktop computer. Click on File on the toolbar.

How to claim PPI

A claims management company will take a quarter of your PPI compensation or more – there is no need to use one.

1. Find all the relevant documents and make copies. This includes anything that shows you’ve taken out a policy, and shows you making payments for it. If you’re not sure whether it’s relevant, copy it.
2. Write a letter to the mortgage, loan or credit card provider who sold you the PPI. It shouldn’t take too long to do if you use the Money Advice Service template letter or you can fill in the questionnaire which most of the banks have on their own websites. It’s a standard form that is also used by the Financial Ombudsman Service. Send all the documents you think might be relevant. Explain why you think you were miss-sold PPI.
3. If you don’t get a response or decision within eight weeks, send a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). The Ombudsman will ask you to fill out a questionnaire to decide whether or not you’ve been miss-sold PPI.

How far can you go back with a PPI claim?

How far back can I go? As long as the PPI was active within the past six years (or is still active), then reclaiming is fine: for example, you took it out in the Nineties but were still paying it five years ago. For older policies, you can still try to reclaim (and some succeed), but the chances are lower.

How long do you have to claim back VAT?

Under-claimed VAT can now be reclaimed as far back as 4 years, rather than 3 years. If the sum to be claimed is less than £10,000 then you can reclaim it in your next VAT return. If it is more than £10,000 then it must be reclaimed through the submission of the appropriate form.

You can usually reclaim the VAT paid on goods and services purchased for use in your business. If a purchase is also for personal or private use, you can only reclaim the business proportion of the VAT

Don’t use claims management companies

A complaint management company will provide you to help your claim. You may have seen their advertisements and you may have received texts and phone calls from them.

Please do not use them.

Creating complaints is pretty easy. Please follow the above steps and use the provided template.

Why to avoid them

The billing management company usually takes more than a quarter of the remuneration. They may also try to charge you a prepaid fee and some companies have busted without doing anything to regain the customer's money.

Some claim management companies say that banks process complaints more quickly, but this is not true. If you claim it yourself, you will not lose. In fact, you will end up with more money.

How to complain about a claims management company

If you are not satisfied with the service you got from the complaint management company, you can give a complaint directly to the complaint management regulator.
