Today there are many agents offering a free Credit Card Report 30 Day Trial. They offer customers a 30-day credit card report or forever.
Among the best credit agencies that provide credit card reports for free include:
- CreditExpert is a report from Experian, the most widely used credit checking firm in the UK
- Equifax is the second most widely used in the UK
- CheckMyFile shows all the information of all the top three.
CreditExpert
Experian is most often used by lenders who check the credit score of a potential customer.
They offer trial reports and 30-day free credit card scores. The cost of the service is £ 14.99 per month, the most expensive in this test.
How much information do you get in the Trial?
Experian gives you a full report for the month you are applying for free plus their score of 1000.
This is very comprehensive, ranging from monthly balances and payments from each open debt to CIFAS public records and information.
It's mostly pretty clear and user-friendly and I like that they throw in some extras, like promotional rate indicators for credit cards, which will be useful if you're doing balance transfers.
It is possible to make changes, such as adding disassociation notes and seeing those changes appear in the report without paying privileges, although the way this site is set is not so clear.
Equifax
Equifax is the second largest agent in the UK.
A call to customer service reveals that to gain access to the credit score you need to sign up is not for 'free credit report' but click 'credit score' and list for a free 30-day trial (Cost £ 14.95 per month thereafter).
When you sign up for a 'free credit report' by mistake, do not pay £ 5.95 to access your credit score. Contact customer service and ask to change, explaining that you'd like to use a free trial credit score for free.
How much information does this Experiment provide?
After you enable the free credit report and print a lot of good and detailed information.
Member center dashboard shows a summary with color-coded icons that help you find potential problems quickly. Credit agreements, court information, previous searches, property valuations, old notes, correction notices are all closed.
On the credit score page, you are given a detailed explanation of the meaning of your credit score and how it will be perceived by the lender.
The Webdetect function lets you add email addresses, credit cards, debit cards, phones, bank accounts, driver licenses and NI numbers and Equifax will "constantly actively scan for hard-to-find websites for your personal information and alert you if your information is present at risk of being traded.
To find the right number to call using 'need help?' the section at the bottom of the Center Member's main page and call customer service at 0844 335 0550, select option 3, between 8 am and 8 pm.
CheckMyFile
A slightly different offer comes from CheckMyFile, a company that claims that you can see "more than twice the information compared to other credit reports in the UK". A bold claim, ripe for testing.
How much information do you get in the experiment?
You get no score but the score is judged by each of the three credit reference agencies: Equifax, Experian Credit Expert, and Callcredit - which makes you wonder why you are not using any other service provider at all.
You can view search history done on your credit file, even if it's stored at the bottom of the summary page and is easy to miss.
